Ms. Maunakea is a 2004 graduate of CU-Boulder with a degree in engineering and a minor in business. Malia has been active on several CAI projects in her home state of Hawai’i including plans for Kaka‘ako, Kailua and Ho‘opili on the island of O‘ahu, and Maui projects in Kapalua and Hāliʻimaile. Malia's background as an engineer helps her evaluate pedestrian environments, bicycle facility integration on existing streets, and motor vehicle traffic impacts associated with development proposals. To further her knowledge of trail design, Malia completed a 2,700 mile, five-month long hike from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail in 2006.
