Governor's Energy Office Workshop

On May 6 Jim Charlier spoke to an audience of central Colorado local officials, including Salida, Buena Vista, Chaffee County and Breckenridge, among others.  The workshop was put on by the Governor’s Energy Office as part of a program to support energy planning in Colorado — “Recharge Colorado.”  Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr., issued an Executive Order on April 16, 2007, re-creating the Governor’s Office of Energy Management and Conservation (originally created in 1977 to promote energy conservation in Colorado) as the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO). The GEO’s mission is to lead Colorado to a New Energy Economy by advancing energy efficiency and renewable, clean energy resources.

The workshop was held at the Steam Plant in Salida – a restored building that once housed an actual steam generating plant and that is now a town civic facility, on the banks of the Arkansas River. It was organized by the Chaffee County Community Energy Coordinator, Kathryn Wadsworth.  Joani Matranga, the Western Region Representative for the Governor's Energy Office attended and helped with the workshop.  Chaffee County has developed an energy and greenhouse gas plan – EnergyNow – that is available on the web (see URL below).
